Therapist for moms walking in downtown Milwaukee

I’m so happy you’re here!

Hi, I’m Shannon Garcia, LCSW

I specialize in helping moms find balance and joy in the chaos of motherhood. I also support millennial and Gen Z women in overcoming anxiety, and I offer parent counseling to help families thrive.

I’m a mama of two, millennial, proud introvert, and recovering people pleaser. I try my best to live an eco-friendly lifestyle and to combat the cycle of addiction with my smartphone. Balancing my take on attachment parenting with my reactions to my children's endearing chaos is an ongoing adventure. Through my own healing, I have formed a new relationship with my anxiety. I believe everyone should do therapy. Your time is now. And, you deserve it.

What to expect in therapy

I believe therapy isn’t just talk. I’m a psychotherapist who is passionate about helping my clients build mental wellbeing to last a lifetime. I focus on teaching you how to navigate your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors so you can use these skills for the rest of your life. It’s about giving you practical tools to understand and improve how you think and act, so you can take charge of your well-being.

My Approach

Your stories, your emotions, your struggles, and your goals make sense to me.

My approach to therapy involves not only exploring and processing your stressors and thoughts but also looking at how we can adapt behaviors to help you heal. I introduce skills and then work with you on realistically using them in your daily life. We remain in the mindset of coaching your brain and helping your brain learn to react differently over time. We do this with self-compassion, self-respect, and a smidge of humor. Ok, maybe a lot of humor.

While I use various therapy techniques to help you make the positive changes you're looking for, my go-to method is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Think of it as a valuable skill set that empowers you to become your own mental coach, fostering long-lasting well-being. It's effective and practical, helping you cope with life's ups and downs even as life's challenges evolve over time.

In my sessions, you will always be the expert of your life and your needs. I’m down-to-earth, laid-back, and create an environment of zero judgment where you can allow yourself to be vulnerable, laugh, cry, and swear as much as you need to.

I have been helping individuals with anxiety and providing parent counseling for over 10 years. I have my masters in social work with my focus area on clinical social work. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in both Illinois and Wisconsin and have worked in both outpatient and inpatient therapy settings.

We do our sessions virtually; as long as you are in a private setting we can meet. So wear your pajamas, throw your hair in a bun, and cozy up with your dog (or cat). Let’s work together!

Get to know me better

Why Illinois and Wisconsin

I grew up and currently live in the Illinois suburbs of Chicago. However, I spent almost 10 years living in Milwaukee (take me back there)!

Favorite thing about Wisconsin

I fell in love with Milwaukee and the energy the city has. I am also a huge fan of going “up north.”

The most millennial thing about me

I have lots of houseplants, maybe more than lots.

My favorite kid show

It’s Bluey and I have no shame. Disney can take my money every month forever.

Cubs, Sox, or Brewers

I’m a Cubs fan still grieving the loss of Anthony Rizzo. I do believe Wrigley Field North is great for tailgating.

Favorite thing about Illinois

My family. Most of my family lives in Illinois and they are some of my favorite people.

Best bandwagon I’ve jumped on

Baking bread. Always wanted to try it, finally made it happen.

Fun personal goal

I want to visit all the national parks and I’d like to visit all 50 states.

Bears or Packers

I am a Bears fan by birth although I do not follow football closely. I understand that for you Wisconsinites being a Packer fan is in your DNA.

Favorite weekend activity

Going for long walks. Perfecting my ability to head home before I regret how far I’ve gone.

My watch-on-an-endless-loop shows

Seinfeld, Veep, The Office, Friends, and Gilmore Girls.

Personal motto

I like to remember to be mindful of the everyday moments and challenge myself to put my phone down.

Your path to wellness starts here.
